Christmas Crafts: Fabric Holiday Wreath

For each Christmas season, I like to hand make something to give to each person in my family. This helps to reduce the cost of gifts and everyone is always happy to receive something that has a lot of love behind it. One year, I made Fabric Wreaths.
This is also a great craft to do with children, however they will need help with the cutting of the fabric and applying the hot glue. Children should always be supervised when sharp and hot objects are being used.

What You Will Need Before You Begin:
A straw wreath of any size (note: the bigger the wreath, the more work you will be doing and if you cannot find a straw wreath, you can use a Styrofoam one but it may make it a little harder to work with)
Holiday Fabric of your choice
Scissors
An unsharpened pencil
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Ribbon
Bow (optional)
Beads (optional)
Optional:
You can add a bow to the front and attach it with hot glue.
You could also add small beads and buttons to the fabric for a different type of look.

How To Make the Wreath:
Cut the fabric into 2 in x 2 in squares. You are going to need a lot in order to cover the entire wreath. (You can make the squares as big or little as you would like. Different sizes offer different looks)
Place the unsharpened pencil in the middle of one of the square pieces of fabric (the bright side of the fabric should be facing you).
Place a small amount of hot glue on the backside of the fabric and push the fabric down into the wreath with the pencil.
Continue this process until the entire front and sides of the wreath are covered in the fabric. You do not want to have any of the straw showing, except on the back.
Attach a ribbon to the back of the wreath, at the top, using the same process as with the fabric. This will be how you will hang the wreath. This time you may have to use a little more glue in order to securely attach the ribbon for hanging.
Be creative and see what you can make.
When you are done, you will have a great looking holiday wreath that you can keep for yourself or give away to someone.

We made a wreath similar to this last year. I used about 20 different fabrics for a very fun look. It turned out great but it was some work.

Christine, I made a similar wreath several years ago and it was a lot of work. You gave very good instructions and those wreaths are so attractive.
